SnoreMeds Questions
What is snoring?
Snoring is the vibration of respiratory structures and the resulting sound, due to obstructed air movement during breathing while sleeping. In some cases the sound may be soft, in others loud and unpleasant. The structures are usually the uvula and soft palate.
Why do some snoring mouthpieces have holes in the front and other mouthpieces do not?
The SnoreMeds mouthpiece has been designed with holes to make it easier to swallow during the night and to also allow for emergency breathing if the nasal passages are blocked.
Can people who wear dentures wear a snoring mouthpiece?
No we do not recommend it and we also suggest that only people with healthy gums and teeth use the mouthpiece.
How long does the mouthpiece last?
The mouthpiece lasts approximately 4 months. This does differ from person to person (a bit like a toothbrush) it depends on the pressure placed on the appliance in holding the bottom jaw forward. It is also more hygienic to replace the mouthpiece regularly.
Can children use the snoring mouthpiece?
The jaw and teeth of children are still in the development stage so the mouthpiece should not be used for children.
Does the mouthpiece come in different sizes?
One size fits all. The mouthpiece is softened by the boiled water so the size of the mouthpiece is determined by the shape of your mouth.
Is the SnoreMeds mouthpiece comfortable?
Absolutely! Like anything, though, it takes a short while to get used to. You may experience some initial tooth pain and discomfort. However, after only a week or two of use, you will be so used to the feeling of sleeping with the mouthpiece that you won't even know it's there.
Will the SnoreMeds mouthpiece get rid of my snoring from the very first night of use?
You have an 85% chance that the mouthpiece will work for you. If you find that after the first night that you still snore then re-mould the mouthpiece with your jaw slightly more forward.
Does the mouthpiece contain latex?
No. It is made from a FDA approved plastic and is approved for medical dental use.
Does it fit all mouth sizes, both men and women?
NYes. The SnoreMeds mouthpiece is moulded to your mouth and is therefore individualised to fit your particular mouth size.
How often will I need to replace my mouthpiece?
On average you will need to replace your SnoreMeds snoring mouthpiece every four months. This is because the polypropylene that it consists of needs to be soft enough to be comfortable. Over time, this softness causes the mouthpiece to stretch, moving the jaw backwards in position.
If the material was too firm, the jaw would become very sore.
How many times can it be moulded?
Your snoring mouthpiece can only be moulded twice - so be sure to take extra time and care to follow the provided instructions carefully.
What do I clean it with?
Use the spatula supplied to hold the mouthpiece and use a toothbrush with tooth paste to clean it or place the mouthpiece in a container and drop in a Polident tablet.
A mouthwash would also be adequate to keep the mouthpiece clean.
Are there any side effects?
The mouthpiece is normally very well tolerated. There are minor and temporary side effects and this refers mainly to hypersalivation and morning discomfort.
